Basic Education Teacher (F/T)
The Fortune Society seeks a full time teacher for its Adult Basic Education program to teach reading/writing classes and math classes at a variety of levels. In addition, the teacher will mentor students outside the classroom, maintain regular contact with students, counselors, and work with the rest of the teaching staff to coordinate intake and assessment.
We are looking for a person who is familiar with participatory models of literacy instruction, who is comfortable with a project-based approach to teaching, and who wants to work in a collaborative environment with a fair degree of responsibility. Applicants should be comfortable teaching math to students of different levels (from literacy to GED). Teachers work one evening per week, and are responsible for managing administrative duties related to program participants.

GED Instructor (Volunteer)
Community Impact at Columbia University is seeking volunteer teachers, teaching assistants, and tutors for its day and evening GED programs. Teach literacy skills to English Language Learners in 6th, 7th and 8th grades at an after school program operating three days a week, five hours a week during after-school hours. Develop individual education plans for each student, develop lesson plans, provide instruction, evaluate participant progress, track relevant data, communicate with parents, supervise assistant instructors and volunteer tutors, attend mandatory professional development trainings and meet regularly with supervisor and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
Qualifications:
- Must be a literacy coach with a Masters degree in reading or a certified teacher.
- Must have at least three years experience providing literacy instruction to English Language Learners.
- Must have experience working with middle school students. Familiarity with LAS Links test is desirable.

Intake Receptionist (P/T)
Literacy Partners Inc. seeks a part-time Intake Receptionist to support the Education and Recruitment Departments with administrative tasks, including: data entry, mailings, orientation, and other special projects.

ESOL and ABE Instructors (Volunteer)
The Adult Learner Program of The Queens Library, which serves an extraordinarily diverse immigrant population, is seeking energetic and disciplined ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) & Adult Basic Education (ABE) volunteers to assist in our Jeanne Elemezzi Adult Learning Center located in Long Island City.
ESL Volunteers will lead a group of adult ESL students through classroom activities that would give them a chance to practice conversing in English. ABE Volunteers will lead small tutorial groups for reading and writing or math. We will provide you with all the training resources, and materials you need to be successful.
We seek volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 3 hours/week for 12 weeks. For July-September we still have openings for Monday – Saturday nights (6-8pm), Afternoons (2-5pm), and mornings (10-1pm).
REQUIREMENTS:
Uphold and model the Queens Library core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring. Show creativity and patience in working with adults with varying degrees of English proficiency. Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish, French, Arabic and/or other languages is preferred. Previous teaching experience is a plus, but not required.

Reading Tutor (Volunteer)
A volunteer reading tutor is needed for two adolescents aged 11 and 16, newly arrived from Liberia, with no reading skills. Tutoring would take place in a public library in the Bronx. They are enrolled in public school, but the school is offering very little support. They desperately need to “catch up,” and are very anxious and willing to learn.

GED Teachers (Volunteer)
The Hetrick-Martin GED program seeks volunteer teachers and tutors for NYCs only LGBTQ-centered GED preparation program. The ideal candidate is a retired teacher or adult educator, preferably DOE fingerprinted, who is familiar with the LGBTQ community. The volunteer will teach and/or assist with teaching all 5 subjects of the GED, with a strong emphasis on math (concepts and procedures) and writing instruction. The ideal candidates will be able to volunteer for 2 hours 1-5 days a week, Monday thru Friday between 4 and 7pm. GED Coordinator will work with your schedule!

English as a Second Language Instructor (Volunteer)
Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 117-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services which significantly improve the lives of 20,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Our English as a Second Language program provides high quality, interactive instruction to a diverse student body. We seek to increase students’ language skills, confidence in speaking and comprehension of English. Volunteers are needed to teach one 2 hour English class per week for adults. The school term runs April 16 – June 21. Classes are held Monday & Wednesday,9:30am-12:00pm, Tuesday & Thursday,9:30am-12:00pm and Tuesday & Thursday,6:15pm-8:45pm at 331 East 70th Street in Manhattan.
