
Charmaine Rose, a nurse by profession, has been a volunteer tutor at Flatbush Adult Learning Center for two years. Maggie Dunsmuir has been the site’s supervisor since July 2000.

In 1982, Venris Renton moved from Jamaica to New York. He joined the literacy program of the Flatbush Adult Learning Center, Brooklyn Public Library so he could, in his words, “achieve something much better for me and my family—a better paycheck, a better education.” While studying at ALC, he also earned his driver’s license.
