Pre-Service Institute
The LAC’s Pre-Service is a two-day institute that offers teachers, tutors, program managers and counselors new to the field an introduction to key concepts, policies, and practices in adult literacy education. It is offered at least once every fall, and repeated throughout the program year on an as-needed basis. Among the issues the Pre-Service Institute explores are:
- Elements of positive adult learning experiences, and principles of adult learning
- The experiences, aspirations, and concerns of students in adult literacy programs
- Federal and state adult literacy policy
- The connection between intake, goal setting, and instruction
- NYS adult education learning standards
- Instructional planning
- Resources for adult literacy practitioners
