Introduction

The General Outlook of the U.S. Job Market at Americas Career Infonet provides you and your learners with a simplified pathway to comprehensive career information. In this activity, you will follow the directions on the General Outlook web site to help you research careers that fit your needs and have requirements that match your educational background.

Steps

1. Go to the General Outlook of the U.S. Job Market web page at http://www.acinet.org/acinet/oview.htm

2. Make your selections for occupational ranking and worker educational level by clicking inside the circles next to your choices and then press "Search."

3. The next screen will provide you with a list of careers matching your requirements. Select one of careers that you would like to learn more about and click on it.

4. On the next screen you need to select the state you want to search within. Click on the down arrow until you see your state and then click on top of the name of the state. Your state should now be highlighted. Now, click on "Search."

5. Now you will receive an Occupation Report on the career you selected. Read the report and answer the questions below. If you dont find the answers on the first screen, scroll down to the bottom of the page where youll find links to more information about the career.

Questions

1. Describe what your main duties would be in this profession?

2. In your state, what is the median hourly wage and annual salary for this profession?

3. If reported, how many job openings are their, on average, each year?

4. What special knowledge, skills and abilities are important in this profession?
